Reykjavik city

I'm still mixed of where I should place Reykjavik. Before I went there I thought it was going to be more "Nordic" styled, kinda like the old days.
But when I got there I felt it being more similar to Canada rather than Nordics. Not everything but a lot. In a way, I guess this is probably what Alaska looks more like?!

Most of the pics below resembles more to the Nordic style I guess..haha
But I guess I was more attracted to those buildings!

Still a "city", but still like a small town, also no stress what so ever!
And the cafes turns into bars in the night! A great way to make the business grow!?

I really recommend people to go and visit Iceland and Reykjavik!

A thousand miles

Here's another track from the past. I remember that the radio played this over and over again!!
I have no idea what happened to her later, because this is the song I really remember.
I know she had a few more during the time, but non stuck in my brain.

Enjoy!

Jørundur

In Reykjavik there are lots of restaurants, with both local and international foods.
However for us we wanted to eat as much local as possible. I mean - Italian, Chinese, Japanese etc you can get that back home.
My fave restaurant was probably this one - Jørundur.
I was unable to take a photo of the interior but to me it felt like travelling back in time to my childhood. It was a typical old Nordic house! ^^
Also the food was served in a frying pan!

I really liked my fish dish with mini shrimps. And I also tried their Skyr dessert, one of the best things I have ever had! it felt like a cheese cake but a lot more fresh!!
My cousin had lamb, which probably was great as well, I didn't try hers, I was busy feasting on my fish ^^
I'd def. recommend this restaurant in Reykjavik, because of the restaurant itself and the food!!

It's located in the city center,
Address: Austurstraeti 22, Reykjavik, Iceland

90 min spinning

I challenged myself a two days ago.
Instead of my usual 60 min spinning I challenged myself by doing 30 more.
I did not go with the same speed, but at the end of the 30 min, I wasn't too disappointed.

I made a total of 57 km (37.2 + 17.8)

Hallgrímskirkja

Last weekend in Iceland we visited this church - Hallgrim's church. Unfortunantely we couldn't enter and go all the way to the top. I really wanted to do that as it's said to offer a spectacular view! But it was amazing to see from the outside too.
It's a Lutheran parish church and is 74.5 meter tall. The church is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614 to 1674), author of the Passion Hymns.
It's not that old, it's said that construction work began in 1945 and ended in 1986 (38 years to complete!!)
If you ever go to Reykjavik, it's a building you cannot miss out, reasons, it's visible ;) and it's also located in the city center! (^^)

Say GoodBye

Who can forget this band... S Club 7?!
For me it was the best mixed "girl-boy"band!! I watched all their shows and listened to their music.
I think this was from 4-9th grade something ^^ I also have their S club movie dvd somewhere in the house. It was so silly yet amusing!!!
My fave member was Rachel! Paul wasn't my fave, still I was sad when he decided to leave.
This was the final song, a very beautiful one!

Enjoy!

Also, I have heard they will reunite later this month for the annual Children in Need!
Its gonna be exciting to see them again ^^ Wonder if they will have a new song..hehe

Gullfoss

This place was also a great stop on our 1 day trip around Iceland.
However the wind.. what can I say, I almost blew away.
I was scared I was gonna be blown down in the water fall!
The wind was unbelievably strong it was scary. I took one step forward and was blown forward 5 more!
My cousin couldn't stop laughing at me as I looked like a piece of paper blowing away in the wind!
However despite that, Gullfoss was a beautiful place!!

Chinese dinner

The other day I met up with Hanna, I gave her some gifts from Iceland and Norway and had a long chat about life!!
But of course as always we ate good stuff. She told me that the Chinese place in the food court now also serves a Chinese menu. That means.. real or more proper Chinese food!! Not the Swedish/Western styled of what we believe Chinese food is!
Of course the whole menu was in Chinese but Hanna kindly explained and we ordered. I could at least read one of the dishes, my fave one.. Mapo tofu!!
We also had a spicy chicken dish! So good!!!

Happy days!!!

Mapo tofu

Spicy chicken

Ghost of you and me

I loved another trio, a male one... BBMak! They however lasted very short.
And I was never able to see them live, something I still feel a bit sad about today.
Oh well, here's one of my fave songs by the boys!
I think I might have shared this one before... (^^;;)

Laugarvatn Fontana

At the end of Friday, we also stopped by a hot springs, in, SERIOUSLY, middle of nowhere!!
It felt like a secret haven hidden away in the Icelandic landscape!
Although it was cold outside, it was cozy in the water and a great experience!
It was just what we needed!!

I seriously doubt we'd gone here by ourselves without the tour bus.
And on our way home we were satisfied with our 1 day trip and choice of making a stop at this place!!
I wonder how they thought of making this kind of spa in the first place, as it's not easy to access!

A great day and sorta ending to a packed day in the Icelandic countryside!

Walk in the sun

Today I'll share yet another song from the past! Although McFly is a band and I used to follow them a lot, this song is by one of the members, Danny.
I love this song so much! I better find the album in my shelf!!
Also, him forgetting the lyrics at 2.31 is just (^^;;)

I just realized they are still active... should take a look?!

Anyway, for now...Enjoy!!

Geysir

Last Friday we went and saw a periodically spouting hot spring aka Geysir.
I have never seen it in real life before so it was a great experience. It also felt kinda surreal to be honest.
I'm so happy I was able to catch the moments ^^

We stood there for about 5 min and all the people around was anticipating what was coming.
Now and then it looked liked it'd erupt but it was false alarm, however when it finally came, everybody went "Oooh" and "Ahhh" (^^;;)

This one was called STROKKUR...I think.

The last Goodbye

I loved this trio, when Kerry left I was so sad, but I came to like Jenny too.
These girls were one of my fave bands during 7-9th grade!!
This one of their later records, but one of my fave!!
Enjoy!

Bláa Lónið

Last Saturday me and Anna visited Bláa Lónið (Blue Lagoon) and enjoyed their baths.
The lagoon is a man-made lagoon which is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi and is renewed every two days. And the waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulphur.

It was a great visit, I so want to go again!!
I loved the Icelandic Hot Springs!! Why can't we have those in Sweden?!
This is a must visit on Iceland!!

Just another day

I checked old cds and found this single! I think I won it from somewhere.
It really takes me back to my teens, I used to LOVE this song!!
I think I played it non-stop when it was released!!
This week I'll post more oldies...hehe

First out Jonathan Wilkes - Just another day

Skyr

The journey is about to come to an end.
I've been eating a lot of SKYR - an Icelandic dairy product...similar to yoghurt but thicker and contains more protein.
I love it ^^
I wish we we had more flavours in Sweden!!

When the stars go blue

Soon time to head home from Iceland!
As we'll also having a stop over in Norway on the way home, I decided to share this one.
I used to listen a lot to Venke back in the days, also I loved this duet with Kurt Nilsen ^^

Enjoy!!

Icelandic landscape

Yesterday we did get around Iceland and its beautiful landscape.
We we lucky enough with the weather as the rain started to pour down as nothing else. Anyway... we had a great full day tour. I'm so happy we did this!!!

Hello from Iceland

Short hello from a cold Iceland. The pics shows the money...looks like toy money no?
Yesterday i spent quite an amount on Icelandic sweaters!!!but it's once in a lifetime so i guess it's ok.
Yesterday we wnt out out touring the Golden circle!!

Smilehull

As I'm not really familiar with Icelandic music, I'll share some more Norwegian music ^^
This song is by Norwegian duo Erik and Kriss, the song was released last May, right before the World Cup. I don't think it was an official song for the world cup in Norway but ^^
I like it... it's called Smilehull and in English it means Dimple.

Enjoy!
