Dinner at Gogigo (고기고)

On New Years we made a reservation at the Korean BBQ restaurant GoGiGo.
It's located in Sinsa-dong in central Seoul. Between Sinsa and Apgujeong station.
The building is huge but it felt quite small inside.

The service was nothing to show, I was extremely disappointed with the service consider the price.
They were rude to us telling us we didn't eat fast enough so the meat got a bit burnt.
We wanted to enjoy the meal, and we were told they were to grill it. We were not told to eat it all in a second! Honestly what kind of manner is that?

Also before we ordered we asked about the meats presented, the waiter told us to get the expensive one and a lot. I asked what the difference was, she replied "There is a big difference".
I asked again, in what way? texture, taste? her reply "you have to try yourself to know".
And we all spoke Korean so there was no "lost in translation".

I have gone to other meat places and the staff knew the difference and could explain the meats so well. These women were just there to work but had NO KNOWLEDGE at all. A shame for a restaurant serving such fine quality of food.

We also asked about the size of the meat for us and what to have, she told us to get A LOT.
In other words, she only wanted to sell and earn money. She didn't think of us eating and enjoying the experience.
I missed kimchi on the table and despite of asking, non was given UNTIL the very end of the meal.

The food was delicious, it was the best Korean meat I have had and the company made the dinner enjoyable.

If you ask...will i go back?
I don't think so, I think I'd look up other restaurants that serves similar food.
The reason I chose this place was that Sunny Dahye on Youtube said it was great... haha
Nothing bad about Sunny I love watching her and hopefully she and her family had much better experience. :)

The spiciness doesn't stop. Back in August Samyang released yet another version of their spicy noodles. This version 2 times as spicy as their red 핵불닭볶음면, the red package which were double the spiciness as their first release!!!
Yes, this pink-purple version called Mara (마라) is 4x as spicy the original!!!
Would you dare to try??

Left overs becomes the main

Yesterday evening we went for a long walk, very nice :)
And on the way home we talked about dinner. I suddenly craved Korean spicy rice cakes (ddeokbokki) but we weren't sure if we had enough ingredients at home. I remember we had some opened packs of ddeok (rice cakes) both normal tube version and soup version. I also found some leek in the freezer and we also had a new pack of fish cake and we have a cupboard filled with noodles.
Yes, we made a complete dish of the left overs.

And you might know.. I'm the Ddeokbokki queen :)
I could eat this several times a week, but since it's mostly (85%) carbs I wouldn't recommend it ^^
Still whenever eaten, so so so so delicious!!!

Black bean noodles and sweet sour pork

I'm ticking off my cravings one by one.
As you might know, I was on a strict wedding diet and shredded lots of kilos on the way.
Yes it felt good!! Although I do not want to be as strict as prior the wedding, I decided to follow it during the weekdays, and have my cheat days on weekends!

I have wanted this for quite some time and since we are not going to Korea any day soon I asked to make this at home!
This week's cheat food was the Korean Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) and Tangsuyuk  (탕수육).
To get the BEST of the BEST. I googled a lot and took inspiration from here and there.
My hubby helped too and in the end we decided on how to proceed.

For the noodles our biggest inspiration was from Korean chef Baek Jong-won.
He put a lot of green onions in the base and no added potatoes. We added pork loin, onions and the blackbean sauce. and let it all cook together
Wow it turned out nice.

As for the sweet and sour pork, it seems the key ingredient to get the crunch is to let potato or corn starch sit in water, 1,5-2 h before pouring out the water. Add an egg and mix, that batter wow!!
double frying is the best, the taste and crunch is to die for.
The sauce however, I trusted my usual Youtube inspirations but I was not pleased with the outcome, in the end I had to do my own show to get the perfect taste. I followed what they said but to be it tasted like water and water only. Anyhow it turned out great!!!

If you wonder about the noodles, we picked up noodles from the asian grocery market, specially made for cooking jjajangmyeon. You can use Udon or "kalguksu" noodles.
Kal = knife, "guksu" = noodles.
I like both but the udon is a bit more chewy  and that's why we chose those noodles this time around.

A new diet?

I have started to think, maybe this can be a new diet for me, I think I have shared mukbangs before but some time ago.
However, thinking about it as a diet...I mean..

1. It's mostly junk so it's bad for me anyway, better him than me ^^
2. I cannot get the foods in Sweden so there is nothing to do about the craving
3. It's entertainment

Do you know what Mukbang is??
It's Korean and Muk means eat and Bang is room, so roughly translate "eating room".
What it is, well.. a person eating a lot in front on the camera, kinda weird I know.
But, as they talk while eating and the sounds kinda makes you want to eat.
And yes somethings I get hungry but a lot of these things I cannot get in Sweden.
So I just have to suck it up..haha

Anyway, it's a way for me to keep "slim" yet "enjoy" the food, it's all about fooling the mind!!

For you

My new addiction is the Korean tv drama called 신데렐라와 네 명의 기사, Cinderella and 4 knights.
It's all a Korean drama can be, SUPER corny but just lovable!

Here's one of the OST's I really like.
However it so reminds me of Super Junior KRY's Angel, that was released way back. I thought it was them at first because of the lyrics then they started to sing and I was like.. This is not SuJu..haha
It might be the same song but different lyrics, not sure but it sounds VERY VERY similar.
Well.. not matter what, I love it.

Here's BTOB with For You.

ENJOY!

The country of kimbap

This time around in Korea I ate a lot of kimbap, aka seaweed rolls. NO not sushi.
Anyway, I ate home made, kimbap cheonguk and other franchises such as Robot kimbap.
I was happily surprised to try new ones, as in they had different toppings - jeyuk, donkatsu, ddeok galbi etc.

I could eat this for lunch several times a week if they were sold here in Sweden!
It's a quick meal but you get it all - veggies, meat, rice! ^^

Dinner for 4 @ 자코비 버거

I have seen pics multiple times but never had the chance to go there.
The one of the final days we had dinner in Itaewon and we went to Jacoby's.
I have to say..the service was beyond bad!

Yes, people still go because of the size of the burger, otherwise they wouldn't have customers. Everybody was treated the same, I looked around and listened! I was surprised about the behaviour.
Anyway, now I have tried it and will not set my foot there again.
I did have a good time though as I had good company!
The taste then, well I donno it wasn't anything special. some of the patty felt weird to chew almost like liver, I did not enjoy the texture. Other than that, like any other burger. The bread was plain and no special taste.

We were 4 people who shared this.
At the table behind us there were two guys, they finished one of this each!
We were amazed and a bit disgust by it. One person should not eat this much!! It cannot be good for the body. Oh well.. it was a fun experience, minus the bad service!

Banana cake @ 바나나트리

I found this online before heading to Seoul.
Then one of the days we ended up in Sinsa. After lunch despite feeling so full I could throw up.
I decided that we'd visit this place just because it was one block away and convenient as we were in Sinsa already. I calculated that I wouldn't have the time to go back before leaving Seoul for this time either. This place is called Banana Tree. Their speciality is their cake and cotton candy drink.
Due to our stomachs already being overloaded we shared a cake and I took a non-alcoholic mojito and my darling took an espresso.
As it is called Banana Tree we chose the Banana cake!
Isn't it adorable, it comes in a flower pot too!

쉼표

The first thing we did after picking up our rental car in Jeju, we looked for a cafe.
Before going to Jeju we had bought a travel book. This cafe turned up.
The view looked amazing so we hurried over. When we arrived the rain had stopped but it was still dark outside. I think if it had been sunshine it would have had been PERFECT.
Anyway it was a good first stop on our trip.

The cafe is called Swimpyo and means comma (,).
I can recommend this place!!The cafe has 2 floors and view is great from both!
You can find address details below.

Black pig bbq @ 소낭밭가든

One of the specialty foods in Jeju island is black pig. And the best way to enjoy it is of course bbq.
We went to this place - 소낭밭 가든 (Sonangbat Garden). It's rather famous and it was also very close to our hotel, maybe 10 min drive. Anyway this was my treat to my darling for being the best man on the planet ^^
We had a big feast! also side dishes are free, I ate greens like a rabbit!
If you are in Jeju island and Seogwipo, try this place! This BBQ is awesome!

Steamed egg! Almost like scrambled eggs ^^

명동교자

I have talked about this place many times but it can always be mentioned.
This place is a MUST visit in Seoul!!
I like this food a lot, I could probably make it at home but I'm too lazy.
So I always visit this place when in Seoul.

This one is the real Myeong Dong Gyoza. It's located in central Myeong dong!
The price has gone up over the years still great!!!

DELICIOUS

Noodles at 옥돔식당

For our first meal in Jeju we stopped for this - Bomal Guksu.
The place is called Okdom Shikdang (옥돔 식당).
Bomal is omphalius rusticus rusticus, which is a species of sea snail. To me at first I said, don't tell me what it really is, I'm gonna eat and see what I think. The place was super popular, in the middle of nowhere to me, but the line just continued to grow.
We waited a long time to get the food, but it was worth the wait. Despite of colour and content it was nice. I recommed this place in Jeju Island, but come early, it gets crowded during lunch time.

Side dishes - kimchi, mung beans and broccoli

Brunch at 커피로쏘

In Busan we started our second day by having brunch at this wonderful cafe, it's located in Northern Busan. We got there by car, I guess you can take a bus too. But don't ask me how.
We were lucky with the weather. I loved this place.
We ate lots of delicious bread, my fave was the blueberry mochi one.
A great start of the day, double date day ^^
