It was six months ago, Emma Watson was appointed UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador. Emma Watson, who's most know for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, gave an impassioned speech on feminism at the U.N. Headquarters in New York over the weekend to launch the "HeForShe" campaign. Although her voice was trembling, her speech got through, she was able to convey her message.
I think it was great that she started of by saying Feminism by definition is: “The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes”.
Also the finish was very good, it gave a strong impact and really got the main message through.
"If you believe in equality, you might be one of those inadvertent feminists I spoke of earlier. And for this I applaud you. We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen to speak up; to be the ‘he for she’ - and to ask yourself if not me, who, if not, now when."
It has been widely talked about since she held her speech, and it's definitely worth watching.
